Local Number Portability

Local Number Portability (LNP)

LNP allows customers in the US to keep their current telephone number when switching between standard telephone service providers and to or from VoIP service providers.

Although we make every effort to work with the numerous telephone service providers across the United States, certain local or regional regulations may prevent the release of your current number. In such cases a new number provided by VoiceTelOne is required to subscribe to our service.

What is Number Portability?

Number Portability, also known as Local Number Portability (LNP), allows most U.S. consumers to switch phone service providers and keep their current phone number.

Why chose to keep my current phone number?

Keeping your current phone number will eliminate the inconvenience of having to change numbers, this is one of the biggest reasons consumers don't like to switch between carriers. Important Benefits:

  • No need to memorize a new phone number.
  • No need to notify family, friends and other contacts of your new number.
  • No need to change stationary, business cards, or other printed materials.

Can I switch my number to my new location?

Yes. Differing from traditional telecom service providers, our services are as mobile as you are. With all our accounts you can keep your phone numbers from another city regardless of where you are located. That is one of the great benefits of VoiceTelOne broadband phone services.

How do I transfer my current phone number to VoiceTelOne?

When placing your order, select "Keep my existing number". On a subsequent screen you will be asked a few questions pertaining to your current telephone service. We will then check to see if LNP is available for your current number.

How long will it take to switch my number?

In most cases, it will take about 2-3 weeks to switch your current home telephone number, or wireless number over. Be prepared however for delays to occur.

What if my current number fails to make the switch?

A VoiceTelOne representative will contact you if the switch is denied or severely delayed by your current telephone service provider.

Is there a charge for Number Portability?

At this time, there is no charge to port your current phone number over to VoiceTelOne VoIP service. Keep in mind though, your previous telephone service provider may charge an early termination fee if you break an existing contract.

I want to transfer my old number, but it was disconnected some time ago.

We are not able to port a number that you do not currently "own" or is "not is service" for any number of reasons. In this case, a new number provided by VoiceTelOne would be required to subscribe to our service.

Can I take my number with me if I switch my service away from VoiceTelOne?

Yes, numbers can be ported from VoiceTelOne to any other telephone or VoIP service provider. You will have to contact your new service provider to initiate the process.

Can I determine if my number is portable before signing up with VoiceTelOne?

Yes. During the online signup process or using our availability tool, you simply enter your current number and we will determine if your current number is portable.

If I switch my number to VoiceTelOne, do I need to cancel my account with my previous provider?

Your previous telephone service provider will automatically terminate your account when the switch is made. You may receive a final billing from that provider that includes any balance owed.
