What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls over your high-speed/broadband internet connection instead of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) as with traditional phone companies.

VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet instead of the typical analog telephone lines. Other than your broadband equipment used for your Internet connection, the only additional piece of hardware that you'll need is the phone adapter that converts your standard phone from analog to digital. In some cases you may wish to purchase a SIP phone (VoIP ready) that is already adapted to work over the Internet. A great number of equipment options are coming available on the market everyday.

Once installed, VoiceTelOne VoIP works just like the traditional telephone service you're accustomed to. You make and receive phone calls the same way you always have. Call any phone anywhere, It works exactly the same!

Although we make every effort to work with the numerous telephone companies across the U.S., certain local or regional regulations may prevent the release of your current number. In such cases a new number provided by VoiceTelOne is required to become a subscriber. LNP is currently provided by VoiceTelOne free of charge!  Click here for more information about Local Number Portability.

What is PBX and VPBX?

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) is a telephone system usually found in an office or campus setting that switches calls between users (or extensions). The PBX allows the users to share a specific number of external phone lines or VoIP lines, saving the added cost of having an external phone line for each user on the system. In a PBX system the equipment is usually owned and located on the customer premises.

In a Virtual Private Branch Exchange (VPBX) system, no equipment is located on the customer premises. All access to setup and configuration is done remotely via an Internet connection. This provides a significant cost reduction since no additional on-site equipment is necessary.
