What is E911?
Enhanced 911 or E911 is a service that
automatically associates the caller's phone number with their
physical address when dialing 911 for emergency assistance. This
service provides emergency responders with the location of the
emergency without the caller having to provide it. Enhanced 911
has been deployed in most metropolitan areas in the United States
and Canada.
If the caller cannot speak or for some
reason hangs up or is disconnected, the emergency responder knows
the physical address of the caller. In this case, emergency
responder will try to call back, but if the line is busy or there
is no answer, emergency service personnel will be dispatched to
the caller's address.
At VoiceTelOne, we are concerned about
providing you with safe and reliable access to emergency service
personnel in times of emergency. VoiceTelOne 911 service operates
a bit differently than traditional 911. During the signup process,
you will be asked for the street address where your VoiceTelOne
service will be used. We then list your address information in the
ALI (Automatic Location Identification) database. This allows
emergency responders to immediately know your physical address
when you call for emergency assistance.
If you move your VoiceTelOne service to
another location, it is important that you immediately register
your new location. To do this, simply log into your web account
and update your address information contained in the "My Profile"
section. Or, call our support team anytime to have a service
representative update your address information. If you fail to
register your new location, any 911 emergency call you make will
likely be routed to an emergency center servicing you previous
location.
It is important to remember that
VoiceTelOne E911 emergency service will not function in the event
of a broadband Internet or power outage, or if your broadband
service or VoiceTelOne phone service is terminated.
VoiceTelOne is compliant with FCC mandate
requiring all VoIP providers to provide E911 service to 100% of
their customers by November 28, 2005.
